Surfside Beach Fishing Pier
On the weekend of October 8, 2016, Hurricane Matthew hit Surfside Beach, the first category 5 Atlantic hurricane since 2007. By the time it hit the South Carolina coast, Matthew had been downgraded to a category 2. Despite the downgrade in strength, Matthew hit hard and destroyed the pier.
As of March 2024, the pier is back open to the public!
